We discovered the winery from Mathias Schödl at the Austrian tasting in London.

Based in Loidesthal in the Weinviertel appellation, Mathias with his brother Leonhard and sister Victoria have successfully converted the family winery to organic in 2019.

Following a visit of the winery, we found at the end of the single vineyard of Grüner Veltliner, In den Kreuthern, three rows of 23 years old vines of Sämling 88.

This variety, often referred to as Scheurebe in the rest of the world, is a cross between Riesling and Bouquet Blanc. This vine parcel caught our attention and it didn’t take us much effort to convince Mathias to work with us on the Sämling 88.

Rarely vinified as a dry white wine, our goal, is showing the expression of this aromatic varietal and, on the same time keeping the freshness and crisp acidity.
